Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate data as seven deaths reported

A further 6,029 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours – with the disease claiming another seven lives.

Latest data published today by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland shows there are 585 Covid patients in Scottish hospitals – up 34 since yesterday.

The number of people battling the virus in ICUs across the nation is 54 — up two over the same period.

Scotland's Covid death toll now stands at 8,118.

However, 10,505 deaths have been registered in Scotland where the virus was mentioned on the death certificate up to Sunday, August 22.

In terms of Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, West Dunbartonshire has the highest rate in the country — at 1,139.9 as of Monday, August 30.

East Dunbartonshire has the second-highest infection rate at 1,229.4 while North Lanarkshire is third with 1,227.4.

In terms of Ayrshire's three local authorities, North Ayrshire has the highest rate of 733.7 while South Ayrshire's rate is 632.2 and East Ayrshire's is 605.3.

A total of 278 new cases of Covid were reported in Ayrshire. Broken down, 104 were in North Ayrshire, 90 in South Ayrshire and 84 in East Ayrshire.

There are 20 Covid patients in Ayrshire hospitals – down four from yesterday – while fewer than five people are battling the disease in intensive care in the region.

A total of 4,106,408 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccine and 3,680,761 have received a second dose.
