Today's Public Health Scotland Covid infection rate data as 3,823 new cases diagnosed

There have been another 3,823 Covid cases confirmed in Scotland as the nation's death toll from the virus rises again.

Figures have been published this afternoon by the Scottish Government and Public Health Scotland as part of the national COVID-19 daily briefing.

Nationally, 285 people are in hospital which is up 10 from yesterday. There are currently 19 people with the disease being treated in ICU.

The number of newly-reported positive coronavirus cases recorded by NHS Ayrshire & Arran has increased by 189 to 21,278.

Of the new cases, 86 were from East Ayrshire and 73 were attributed to North Ayrshire. There were 30 new cases in South Ayrshire.

A total of 289,279 positive tests have now been recorded from 2.273 million tests carried out since the start of the pandemic.

According to Public Health Scotland's rolling seven-day infection rate per 100,000 population, Dundee City has the highest infection rate in the country – at 816.4 as of Thursday, July 1.

The second-highest is Midlothian which has a rate of 686.8 while East Lothian (593.9) has the third-highest rate.

Locally, East Ayrshire's infection rate stands at 444.2 with North Ayrshire at 255.3. South Ayrshire's is 256.6.

Currently, 19 of Scotland's 32 council regions have an infection rate below the national average of 386.8.

Four more deaths have been announced in the last 24 hours which means 7,726 people have passed away since March 2020.

However, data from the National Records of Scotland (NRS) shows 10,168 deaths had been registered up to Sunday, June 27 where the disease was mentioned on the death certificate.

Across the UK, the figure is 128,162 as of last night.

There are 18 patients being treated for the disease in Ayrshire hospitals, which is down two from yesterday, and fewer than five in ICUs.

Nationally, a total of 3,831,770 people have received the first dose of a Covid vaccination and 2,737,347 have received their second dose.
