Today's PS5 stock: Latest update on Argos, Currys, Amazon, Smyths and more

Thousands of PS5 fans in the UK are still trying to buy Sony's latest console as demand continues to outstrip supply.

Figures released by Sony show that 4.5million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold worldwide since it was launched in November, with the Japanese company aiming to sell another 3million by the end of the fiscal year.

Unsurprisingly, many people have been left frustrated as they have been unable to get hold of one.

One tipster followed by thousands of fans on Twitter, PS5StockAlertUK, has been providing updates about availability.

Earlier in the week they warned fans that Argos would not drop new stock on its website on Thursday, and this has proved to be the case.

On Thursday they tweeted: "Argos haven’t dropped overnight as we said. However, Amazon France, Italy & Spain have all dropped this morning. There is no indication that Amazon UK can be next. Prime members get priority email alerts."

Wednesday's update suggested Argos won't have any availability until February 22, but Very and GAME were on course to have more consoles on February 9. Currys could also go live with more PS5s next week.

They have also claimed insiders have said GAME UK and Very will drop new stock on February 9, and later clarified their Argos update.

They quoted their Argos insiders who said "some stores have left comments saying they have consoles now just sitting in cages in stores".

Sony has said it cannot speed up production due to a shortage of semiconductors and other components.

Various retailers also have messages on their websites:

  • Argos: Sorry, PlayStation 5 is currently unavailable. We're working hard to make this available as soon as possible.
  • Currys PC World: The new PS5 has now sold out! We are working tirelessly to secure more stock. Please continue to check for more updates.
  • Smyths Toys: Out of Stock. Expected in stock: February 2021.
  • Very: Unfortunately we have sold out of our PS5 consoles for now. We have more stock coming so keep checking back for our next drop.
PS5 fans in Tokyo, Japan, knocked over tills after being told stock was being released on a first come, first served basis (Twitter)

The clamour for PS5 consoles led to chaotic scenes at an electronics store in Tokyo when a riot broke out.

Tills were knocked over and staff evacuated when a first come, first served basis was announced.

Police were called to clear the area, with reports suggesting the consoles were left unsold.

An eyewitness said: "I've never seen that kind of insanity in Japan before."
