We have had to put up with a lot of fake news in recent times, and if you think you have read more than your fair share of strange stories today, it might be an idea to look at the date.
Newspapers in particular like to have their own little joke on April 1. However, in Thailand a major problem is that many of the daily news stories in Bangkok newspapers are so bizarre it is almost impossible to distinguish between a genuine story and one which could be an intentional April Fools' joke.

You've only got to look at the news stories in recent weeks -- some of those reports are bordering on the absurd. I still can't make head nor tail of the saga over who really owns that winning lottery ticket in Kanchanaburi. Then we've got the tale of the Watch Collector which seems to have disappeared into its own time warp, not forgetting the case of the rich gentleman, the cooking pot and the dead leopard. Then there are endless reports of "misappropiation of funds", or to use the correct legal term, "crookery".
