Today's highlights

Our eyes remain on Indonesia today, as world leaders gather in Jakarta to work out the best way to aid the victims of the tsunami disaster. The European Commission president kicked off proceedings by promising £70m in aid.

Back at home, Gordon Brown has been expanding on his plans to use Britain's presidency of the G8 and EU to forge a new deal between the world's richest and poorest countries. We have all the details of his speech and live coverage of Tony Blair's press conference, which just happened to be scheduled for the same time.

David Batty meanwhile has interviewed Norman Glass, the architect of the government's early years childcare programme, who has little complimentary to say about ministers' "smoke and mirrors" plans.

Similarly dispiriting, Rob Smyth is providing live coverage of England's third Test against South Africa. It's not going well and defeat seems inevitable.
