Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is in Downing Street today attending a summit with Tony Blair, Condoleezza Rice and Kofi Annan and other Arab leaders to discuss how best to pursue peace in the Middle East. We'll be watching events and examining what it means for Israel and the Palestinians.
Elsewhere in Westminster it's Groundhog Day. The government's plans to place terrorist suspects under house arrest are back before parliament – though this time in the Lords rather than the Commons – after the battering they received from MPs yesterday. Tory leader Michael Howard is, meanwhile, talking about immigration, again.
In Kansas, however, Jane Perrone is watching a genuine first: Steve Fossett's bid to fly solo around the world nonstop. She's catching up on her sleep at the moment but will be blogging from mission control shortly. Take a look at our graphic supremo, Paddy Allen's interactive guide to the record attempt to see what all the fuss is about, or watch our video of the takeoff.
We'll also be debating the future of Iraq today, with the Guardian's Seumas Milne, David Aaronovitch and Ian Black live online at 3pm to answer your questions about the invasion, the occupation and January's election. Opinions differ here about the wisdom of military intervention so please let us know what you think.
