Charles Clarke today continues his steep leaning curve as home secretary when he tries to convince sceptical MPs about the benefits of ID cards. Look out for rebellions on both sides of the Commons, with Labour and Tory backbenchers unhappy about their leaders' plans.

Following yesterday's car bombing in Najaf, which killed 54 people, the governor of the Iraqi holy city today announced that 50 suspects had been arrested. Mark Oliver will be following the Iraqi authorities' efforts to control the violence.

Meanwhile, Mark Tran will be weighing up the chances of the latest bid for the London Stock Exchange, tabled by by the Franco-Belgian Euronext stock exchange network. He'll be looking at why the biggest stock market in Europe is a target for takeover.

We'll also be looking at the latest arrest in Italy's permanent war on organised crime, the rise of blogging in the theocracy of Iran, and whether peace has finally broken out in Sudan.
