Happy 30th American birthday, PlayStation!
On this day, 30 years ago, the PlayStation was first released in the United States. What followed can only be described as some of the most iconic games and memories that have withstood the test of time to this day.
The PS1 gave us many classic games, and it was the birthplace of franchises that are still dropping bangers to this day, or it continued to expand on series that began before it by elevating things with 3D graphics and more.
Metal Gear Solid. Final Fantasy VII. Resident Evil. Silent Hill. Twisted Metal. Tomb Raider. Ape Escape. Tekken. Crash Bandicoot. Ridge Racer. Chrono Cross. Dino Crisis. Oddworld: Abe's Odyssee. Gran Turismo. Syphon Filter. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Need for Speed. Ace Combat. PaRappa the Rapper. Spider-Man. Parasite Eve. Medal of Honor.
Shall I continue? I won't, but you get the picture. A lot of us elder gamers were formed by the PS1 days. I can speak for myself in saying that MGS1, Final Fantasy VIII, and Resident Evil formed a triumvirate of favorite franchises that I still love, look forward to, and play to this very day, 30 years later. But many other memories were formed with several other titles mentioned above, and that's still just scratching the surface.
Now, I pose the question to you, dear reader. What's your G.O.A.T. PS1 game? Which is the game you think of when you hear that iconic start-up sound? Let us know in the poll and comments below in celebration of today's anniversary, and then let's boot up some classics for old time's sake.
