Following the opening of the Pierhead building on Monday, the inaugural Pierhead Sessions start today. Kontact at 10.30am is a social experiment in communication between adults and young people; Made in Wales at 4.30pm looks at the success of Doctor Who and its impact in Cardiff; On promoting Democracy at 7.30pm sees Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas and William Hay discuss their roles as guardians of democracy, and as the day comes to a close there will be music from Swar Utsav (Indian folk), Xiao Li (Chinese harp) and The Amigos (gypsy jazz). Tomorrow there will be more sessions so keep posted here.
This morning as part of Poetry Wales there will be readings at Chapter Arts Centre, which usually take place on the first Thursday of each month.
Today you can also learn Persian calligraphy at the Star Centre in Splott as part of the beginnings of International Women's Day celebrations - there's more info on the Splott library webpage here.

In Council there is the Executive Business Meeting at 2pm, and Penarth Town Council meeting for a planning committee meeting at 5.30pm tonight. Llandaff North's PACT meeting will take place at 7pm tonight at Gabalfa Education Centre, on Colwill Road.
Ignite Cardiff kicks off at 7pm this evening at Wales Millennium Centre. They have a promising line-up of speakers - find out more about it on the Ignite Cardiff blog.
Over the the National Theatre Wales Community blog they have introduced their four new critics who will be posting reviews of NTW shows.
