Ozeki Tochinoshin maintained his perfect record on the fifth day of the Nagoya Grand Sumo Tournament on Thursday at Aichi Prefectural Gym in Nagoya.

The Georgian wrestler forced No. 1 maegashira Kotoshogiku (1-4) out of the ring after a false start on the first try.

Sekiwake Mitakeumi also remained unbeaten by pushing out komusubi Shohozan (1-4) at the 15-day tournament.

Kakuryu, the lone yokozuna in the basho after Hakuho withdrew the previous day, suffered a surprise loss to No. 3 maegashira Abi (2-3) in the day's final bout for his second defeat. The yokozuna couldn't finish off Abi near the bales, and backpedaled after an exchange of thrusts, getting pushed out to send zabuton cushions flying.

Meanwhile, ozeki Takayasu (4-1) slapped down No. 2 maegashira Ikioi (1-4). Ozeki Goeido (3-2) maintained his composure to ease past No. 2 maegashira Chiyonokuni (3-2).
