The new mixed drinks for 2020 dubbed "Tochiotome Cocktail," produced with locally sourced strawberries called "Tochiotome," was announced by a group of bar owners and others in the city at a drink-tasting event in Utsunomiya. These specialty cocktails are available as of Friday at 31 bars across the city.
The creation of the Tochiotome Cocktails was a collaborative effort between the Utsunomiya Cocktail Club (an organization of bar owners in Utsunomiya), the JA National Federation of Agriculture Cooperative Association of Tochigi and Kirin Beer's Tochigi branch. They have been working together to create new drinks since 2009 to promote the consumption of local products in the area.
This year, they have come up with two types of alcoholic mixed drinks. The Bar Park Avenue in Hanawada, Utsunomiya, created the Fraise Sour, which brings out the acidity of the strawberry. It is a gin cocktail with peach liqueur and Tochiotome strawberries are added to the mixture, giving it an all-around refreshing flavor.
Bar Craic in Enomachi, Utsunomiya, has created the Les Fraises, which was developed around the concept of strawberry milk for adults. The drink is a mixture of Tochiotome strawberries, condensed milk and whipped cream, which helps form a mixed drink that is said to bring a sweet taste of nostalgia.
