Toby Carvery warning over Facebook scam

Toby Carvery has issued a warning over a scam which is trying to steal people's personal information.

The well-known restaurant chain said there has been an 'upsurge' in fake Facebook pages being set up under the carvery chain's name.

According to a spokesperson for Toby Carvery the 'core aim' of these pages is collecting contact payment and details from people.

The restaurant said it has reported the pages to Facebook for 'violating' the social media platform's community guidelines, in the hopes of stopping the spam pages.

However, Toby Carvery warned that these pages 'stay active for longer than they should' and urged people to be cautious.

In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson said: "Unfortunately there has been an upsurge in fake Facebook pages being created with the core aim of collecting contact and payment details from people.

"Please note, we have taken the necessary steps and reported this page (and any others) for violating Facebook's Community Standards.

"However, sometimes these pages stay active for longer than they should so please be cautious.

"If you encounter these pages, please do not engage and report the page as soon as you can."

Many people commented on the Facebook post and said that they had seen a scam where the CEO of the restaurant was offering 'free food' and free vouchers.

One person said: "I shared and commented to get an inbox asking me to do a survey!

"Knew it was a scam then and deleted the post.

"I have however seen others falling for it too."

Another added: Yes, lots of scam pages around with the word "fans" at the end of a legit page name."

A third person also said: "There is a Toby Carvery fans pages saying it will give out free vouchers, it then asked you to log into a page.

"Of course stealing your details."
