Toby Carvery and Harvester update self-serve rules for customers in Wales

On Saturday, August 7 at 6am Wales moved into alert level zero, meaning most coronavirus restrictions were lifted across the country.

Despite the changes, First Minister Mark Drakeford left some measures in place, including face masks which must be worn on public transport and in shops. You can read the things you still can't do as Wales enters alert level zero here.

And while still mandatory in most public places, face coverings are not legally required in hospitality settings anymore, although they are still encouraged.

Following the announcement, restaurants and pubs have been quick to update their customers on the latest rules and regulations.

Earlier this week, Pizza Hut confirmed its famous self-serve buffet would be returning in Wales for the first time since March 2020, and now Mitchells & Butlers, who own the likes of Toby Carvery, Miller & Carter and Harvester, have issued a statement.

The company has confirmed the rules it still has in place but says face masks will be a "matter of personal choice".

Like Pizza Hut, Toby Carvery's self-serve areas are returning to Welsh branches, however Harvester will continue to have team members serve customers at the salad bar.

A spokesperson for Mitchells & Butlers, told WalesOnline: "Mitchells & Butlers will retain a heightened cleaning regime across all our businesses and continue to offer hand sanitiser throughout our businesses for guests.

"Guests will still be able to check-in using the NHS Test and Trace System if they wish to do so.

"The wearing of face masks is no longer a legal requirement, so this will be a matter of personal choice both for our team members and guests.

"Vertical drinking will be allowed, though we’ll continue to encourage guests to use our convenient order and pay at table apps.

"We are delighted to welcome our guests back to the full vegetable self-serve areas at our Toby Carvery and Stonehouse Carvery Deck and our team will continue to serve at our Harvester Salad Bars."
