Toby Alderweireld reveals when he expects Mauricio Pochettino's replacement to be appointed

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has said that he expects a replacement for the outgoing Mauricio Pochettino will be found quickly.

The former Spurs manager was dismissed on Tuesday evening after a poor run of form saw the team sit in 14th place in the Premier League tale.

When the news broke, Alderweireld was in action for his national side Belgium in their 6-1 win over Cyprus and has revealed that he didn't find out until after the full time whistle.

"It's big news, I knew it after the game, it's part of football, it's never nice to see your manager leave," he told Sky Sports News.

"No hint [of it coming] not at all, it's a surprise for me as well, the club made the decision, you have to accept this and try to change the situation as quickly as possible.

"We came a long way together with a lot of players, we achieved some big things from where we've come from before my time with him, we have to be very thankful to him, for what he achieved at the club and I think he brought this club to the next level.

"It's the first time in my career, the first time ever a manager has changed, so I can't say how it feels or how it's going to be.

"We have to work hard and I'm sure there will be a new manager quickly.

Mauricio Pochettino sacked as manager of Spurs

"We have to stay together and change as quickly as possible together. The team is working so hard to change things, the strength of our team is the work rate.

"I think Spurs is a big club, there will be a big manager for us, hopefully we know it quickly, it's a difficult situation, I don't know the right things to say right now, it needs a couple of day to sink in."

Former Manchester United and Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is currently the runaway favourite to take over the role.
