Toby Alderweireld on the current atmosphere at Tottenham and Jose Mourinho's training sessions

Toby Alderweireld has claimed there is "no negativity" in the Tottenham squad despite reports that some of the players are unhappy about Jose Mourinho's training sessions.

The head coach has only been in the job for two months now and, despite such a bright start to life at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, results have been poor in recent weeks with the team also struggling to score.

According to The Sun, senior players at the club believe the team has gone backwards under Mourinho since his appointment in November and that his training sessions are said to have an over-emphasis on long balls, flick-ons and throw-ins.

Alderweireld was quick to put those rumours to bed after Wednesday evening's much-needed 2-1 win over Norwich City as he claimed that everyone is happy at Hotspur Way at present.

"I don't know where that comes from. I can say with my hand on my heart there's no negativity," he said after the win over the Canaries.

"We have an unbelievable group. I think we have such nice guys. Maybe we are too nice! You know? That's maybe the problem!

"But no, no no, everyone is very happy with the manager, the way we train.

"Of course you know, it's a very busy period you know, everyone is an international as well. So from the beginning of July and until now it's like game game, game, game.

"So, can't complain about training because there's no time to train. You're only playing games. So I don't know where this has come from. I know everybody's happy with where we're going.

"Of course, we're not happy with all the performances, but it's not easy. You know? I think this is a massive win, not maybe a beautiful performers, but three points. And that was the most important thing today."

With some people doubting the character of the team given their struggles this season after the high of a Champions League final last June, Alderweireld has made it clear the team are very much together and the only negative is maybe the fact that the players are too nice.

"For me, it's nothing like that. If it was like this, I wouldn't sign a new deal as well. So now for me it's all positive," added the Belgian international.

"I think we've been so consistent the last four or five years so it's like a little bit human sometimes to drop a little bit.

"Not that you want to drop or anything like that. But sometimes it doesn't go your way and we have to find a way to get back to our level. But on the other hand I think we are fifth now so we're not doing so bad.

"So yeah, but it's the next step that this club has taken whereby if you are fifth everyone is not happy so that's positive as well, so no negativity I don't know where that’s come from.

"Maybe there's a player that’s not happy and maybe he wants to say something it's all possible but from 99% I'm telling you we're happy with the group. The only negative is the guys being too nice!"
