Toby, 6, can now have a normal Christmas Eve thanks to kind Sunshine Fund supporters

For little Toby Horner, this Christmas will be his best one yet.

The adorable six-year-old will finally be able to safely get ready for Santa with a relaxing bath thanks to the kindness of Geordies.

Toby, from Hebburn , needed a specialist bath fit for his needs but it would have cost his family almost £9,000 - something they could never have afforded.

But now he has been given one by a local charity thanks to your donations and it means his Christmas Eve routine will massively improve.

Toby was starved of oxygen during birth and suffered life changing injuries as a result.

He has quadriplegic Cerebral palsy and Bilateral Cerebral palsy with dystonia and spasticity, which affects all four of his limbs and leaves him needing round-the-clock care.

The Percy Hedley School pupil relies on a wheelchair and has to eat pureed food due to his muscle weaknesses.

Up until the special delivery of his new bath, his parents Tracey and Adam had to carry him upstairs for every bath time which was putting a huge strain on their backs as he grew bigger.

For the last three years the family have been raising money to build an extension downstairs to create an appropriate bedroom and bathroom for Toby.

The extension is now completed and now thanks to the Sunshine Fund , Toby has his specialist bath with all of the hoists and features he needs.

Toby was chosen to be part of their annual Go Bananas campaign in the summer where they aim to change the lives of local children with disabilities by purchasing the pricey specialist equipment they need.

The fund are currently in the midst of their Christmas Appeal and want to show how much of a difference you can make to the lives of children like Toby with your kind donations.

Mum Tracey, 36, said: "It's been great, it's made such a massive difference. Previously we were carrying him up and down stairs and were always worried in case we dropped him or accidentally knocked his head.

"Having three children it was hard to watch everyone and keep them all safe before while I was trying to bath Toby.

"Now he can relax and chill out before bed. Warm baths help relax his muscles and he gets a better night's sleep.

"Seeing him finally relaxing in the bath is great, it's been a massive help. We've already noticed a difference with our backs.

"But the most important thing has been his comfort. It's just been wonderful.

"It's there for the rest of his life now, it will last him forever as it's huge."

Tracey, who also has sons Ethan, four and Lucas, two, added: "This Christmas Eve we'll do all the usual things like putting cookies out for Santa and carrots out for the reindeer and they'll all get their Christmas Eve pyjamas on after bath time. They love watching The Snowman and then it'll be an early night.

"But this year it will be a totally different Christmas and so much better for Toby. It's taken all of the stress out of it.

"We're massively, massively grateful. We would never have been able to afford it, it would have just been impossible."
