Tobias Harris, Pistons jump all over Hawks, 118-95

DETROIT _ Detroit Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy was looking forward to the night when the road-heavy schedule would relent.

And the Pistons took advantage on the first night of a schedule that now features many Palace evenings.

The Pistons cooled off the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night with a resounding 118-95 victory.

The Pistons (20-24) jumped to 7-0 lead and cruised from there, enjoying a 30-point lead just over the midway point of the second quarter.

All five Pistons starters scored in double figures with Reggie Jackson (26 points) leading the way. Andre Drummond scored 13 points and grabbed 17 rebounds. Tobias Harris finished with 19 points after a 15-point first quarter. Reggie Bullock scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists in his second-straight start. Marcus Morris scored 14 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and led the team with seven assists.

The Hawks (24-18) had won 9 of 10 coming into the game, with five of the victories coming on the road.

The Pistons, missing starters Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Jon Leuer, took advantage of the weak-rebounding, finishing with a 60-32 rebounding margin.

Detroit practiced good ball movement with 27 assists on 45 made baskets.

Paul Millsap led the Hawks with 21 points.

The Pistons' vibe was different from the outset.

Slow starts have been an issue, but the Pistons jumped to a 7-0 lead, which quickly ballooned to 21-8 at the 5:28 mark of the first quarter. Harris was the fuel with eight quick points.

Harris kept coming and his two-handed flush gave the Pistons 27-11 lead at the 3:46 mark.

Harris capped off the 15-point quarter with a 3-pointer to push the lead to 40-18 with 47 seconds left in the opening quarter.

And Stanley Johnson 9-footer seconds later gave the Pistons a 42-18 lead _ their largest scoring quarter of the season.

The Pistons shot 62 percent from the field and were 6-of-7 from 3-point range in the first quarter. They forced six Hawks turnovers and controlled the glass, 14-3.

The onslaught continued with the Pistons eventually taking a 30-point lead at 54-24 after a Morris three-point play.
