Tobias Harris leads opening-night celebration in Pistons' 102-90 win vs. Hornets

DETROIT _ Reggie Jackson, who struggled last season with a sore left knee, was solid.

Avery Bradley, the offseason acquisition, was as good as advertised.

But it was Tobias Harris that made the Detroit Pistons' first regular-season game at Little Caesars Arena a rousing success.

Harris scored 19 of his game-high 27 points in the first half, leading the Pistons to a 102-90 victory over the Charlotte Hornets in the season opener for both teams.

With NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and many other Detroit celebrities, including Eminem, in attendance, Harris finished 11 for 18 from the field.

And his dagger 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining gave the Pistons a 100-89 lead.

Jackson played a masterful floor game with 13 points, eight assists and no turnovers, and Bradley scored 15 points in his Pistons debut.

Center Andre Drummond finished with eight points (2 for 2 on free throws), 13 rebounds and four assists and two blocks.

Stanley Johnson struggled in his start at small forward, shooting 0 for 13, including 0 for 6 from three, and finished with two points, four rebounds and four steals in 40 minutes.

Kemba Walker led the Hornets with 24 points.

Harris was on the attack from the outset, scoring 12 of the Pistons' first 18 points.

His 3-pointer at the 6:41 mark of the first quarter gave the Pistons a 16-8 lead.

His floater less than a minute later gave the Pistons an 18-12 lead.

The Pistons' largest lead of the first half came at 50-36 on Langston Galloway's 3-pointer and free throw from a double-technical foul against Eric Moreland and Hornets center Dwight Howard.

There was 4:25 left in the first half.

Howard posted 10 points and 15 rebounds for Charlotte.
