Tobacco Factory to host Ukrainian Day this Sunday

This Sunday's regular street market at the Tobacco Factory is being turned into a Ukrainian Day in support of the invaded nation and the refugees that have made Bristol their home.

Former Bristol Mayor George Ferguson said he wanted the day to be 'full of fun and fundraising', with a series of Ukrainian-themed events during the day.

From 10am the Tobacco Factory and Raleigh Road market will feature special stalls selling cakes, clothes and artwork, with all contributions to that welcome and any surplus clothes being donated to a charity which sends provision to Ukraine.

From 11am there will also be children's activities, and Mr Ferguson said they were hoping to source 'some iconic Ukrainian films' to show in the Snug of the Tobacco Factory bar throughout the day.

In the afternoon, from 2.30pm, there will be live music and singing on the stage and later in the evening, more music and dance, and information for Ukrainians in Bristol who come along.

"There will also be a plea for those with spare space in their homes to become hosts," said Mr Ferguson. "Bristol is stepping up to the mark with its hospitality and the feedback we have been receiving from those Ukrainians who are already here is very positive. We are keen to play our part with the sense of fun that we approach everything as well as make a worthwhile contribution to the two charities we are supporting on the day," he added.

"It will be the final day of Bristol Balloon Fiesta and the Tobacco Factory is a good place from which to see some of the ‘fly-overs’ as well as being an ideal ‘watering hole’ on the way to or from Ashton Court," he said.
