To the core of the Big Apple

· When I went to the States last year, I did a considerable amount of research and settled on SuperShuttle as a cost-effective way of getting into Manhattan from JFK. It costs more than the subway ($8 last year), and much less than a taxi, but as you are delivered to your hotel door in most parts of Manhattan it saves the hassle and expense of getting from the subway to your final destination.

It is basically a shared taxi in a comfortable minibus. You can book SuperShuttle over the internet (SuperShuttle.com) or at their desk when you arrive at the airport. You tell them where you want to go and wait for about 15 minutes until a minibus is ready to leave.

SuperShuttle also operates to Newark and LaGuardia airports, and you can book your return to the airport by using a free 1-800 number at least a day in advance. It works around the clock, and I could not fault it.

· Jump in a yellow taxi, there's a well-regulated set-price of $35, to any Manhattan destination, plus any tolls (possibly around $4) if you go through toll tunnels. This is by far the easiest hassle free way to go.

· For the cheapest way, you can take a free shuttle to Howard Beach and then take the subway for $2. it's ok if you're not carrying too much. The new AirTrain is supposed to open in a few weeks. I'm not sure if this affects the free shuttle to the subway, but I know they will charge for the same ride.
