Sept. 23--Your one-two guide of what to do the weekend of Sept. 26-27, 2015:
DO MORE!
Ribs on the River -- are there four sweeter words? Celebrate the fourth annual event, hosted by Bridge House Tavern, on the restaurant's riverfront patio. The feast ($25 in advance; $30 at the door) includes slow-cooked baby back ribs, barbecue chicken, cole slaw, rib tip mac and cheese, bacon baked beans and jalapeno cheddar cornbread. With beer on tap from Revolution ($3) and cocktails from 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey ($5), we'll be there rain or shine. Sunday, Sept. 27, 5-8 p.m. at Bridge House Tavern, 321 N. Clark St., 312-644-0283, bridgehousetavern.com.
SPEND LESS!
At the 10th annual La Feria del Mole, cooks from around the Chicago community put their best dishes made with mole -- a savory Mexican sauce that often incorporates chili peppers and chocolate -- up for judging. For just $7 (advanced tickets), sample more than 20 mole creations and help decide which will be crowned the 2015 winner. Hosted by Universidad Popular, the event -- modeled after one in a small town near Mexico City -- was created after a group of women in the university's Women's Empowerment Program bonded over the pride they take in making the Mexican sauce; the event, which also features music and vendors, raises money to sustain the Empowerment Program. Tickets are $10 at the door. Saturday, Sept. 26, noon to 6 p.m. at 2801 S. Hamlin Ave., 773-733-5055, universidadpopular.us.
