Get your appetites ready. First, hit the 28th annual Apple Fest in Lincoln Square for apple pie, apple doughnuts, apple popcorn and much more from vendors including The Chopping Block, Hilary's Cookies, Amy's Candy Bar, DANK Haus and Dinky Donuts. Admission's free, but bring your cash for the sweets. Saturday, Oct. 3. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 4700 N. Lincoln Ave., www.lincolnsquare.org/apple-fest. Then, head over to the West Chicago Professional Firefighters Association's fourth annual Chili for a Cure in support of breast cancer awareness. Competing chili enthusiasts hand out samples of their dishes 2-6 p.m.; also included in the $10 admission ticket are hot dogs, wings and a raffle ticket for the chance to win a 40-inch high-definition television.
