To do this weekend: Brunch pop-up, monster of a food truck rally

Aug. 05--Your one-two guide of what to do the weekend of Aug. 7-9, 2015:

DO MORE!

Coffee, beer and scone-biscuit hybrids called sconscuits -- it's all happening in the backyard of Sportsman's Club. The bar's three-hour Brunch Pop-up-a-Trois ($21) features a keg of double-strength Dark Matter iced coffee, made from bourbon-washed coffee beans aged in a barrel that once held cabernet sauvignon and ale (the one time it's OK to mix beer, wine and liquor); beers from Middle Brow, including the final keg of Cobrastyle, a sought-after coffee ale; Sportsman's Club snow cones made with Letherbee's Besk; and a sconscuit bar from Edgewater's Sauce and Bread Kitchen. A buck from each ticket benefits Adopt-a-Beach in Chicago. 1-4 p.m. Aug. 8; 948 N. Western Ave.; search Brunch Pop-up-a-Trois on www.eventbrite.com for tickets.

SPEND LESS!

Shift your weekend gear into drive with the fourth annual Monster Food Truck Rally at The Plant, where for just $5 you'll find eight food trucks, a farmers market, live music and tour guides eager to take you around the groundbreaking vertical farm (additional $3 for a tour). Food for sale includes fries tossed in rosemary salt from the Fat Shallot; bacon, date and goat cheese empanadas from 5411 Empanadas; savory hand pies from Bridgeport Pasty; and dessert from Flirty Cupcakes. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8; 1400 W. 46th St.; www.plantchicago.com/events.
