'To be honest' - Sadio Mane responds to Roberto Firmino Liverpool criticism

Sadio Mane has issued a stirring defence of Roberto Firmino and believes the Liverpool striker deserves more credit.

Firmino has attracted criticism for recent form, particularly at Anfield where Jurgen Klopp's side haven't scored from open play in almost 10 hours and have lost four successive league games for the first time since 1923.

However, no Liverpool player has provided more assists this season than the Brazilian, who made his 200th Premier League outing for the club in Saturday's 2-0 derby defeat at home to Everton.

And while Firmino has only six goals this season compared to 24 for Mohamed Salah, 11 for Mane and nine for Diogo Jota, his overall play still retains the admiration of his fellow forwards.

"He deserves more credit than me and Mo, for sure," said Mane.

"But it is part of football, (people) always seeing the goals scored. But without Bobby, I don't see me and Mo score as many goals as we have, to be honest.

"He makes everything easier for us."

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Mane added: "Brazil are just lucky to have Firmino. I have always said to Bobby: 'you will have to change your nationality and come to Senegal!'

"For me, that would be a dream. I just love him.

"I think he is my favourite team-mate."
