TMC bringing violence from Bengal: Tripura minister

AGARTALA: To counter the scathing attack on chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb by Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Tripura information minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday accused the TMC of creating lawlessness here and bringing the culture of violence from West Bengal.

Chowdhury alleged that TMC and the CPM have been playing hide and seek, which Abhishek divulged in his speech sub-consciously while addressing the Agartala rally. Abhishek bluntly compared three-and-half-years' rule of the Deb government with 25 years' rule of Left Front and commented, "CPM was better," that indicated TMC's weakness to communists, he added.

"The people of Tripura have not yet recovered from the pain and sufferings of 25 years of Left Front's misrule and the state is still facing the challenges of maladministration of the communists but Abhishek felt those unfortunate days were better - it's really shocking for us," Chowdhury observed.

Criticising the language Abhishek used against Deb, Chowdhury said, "The opposition political parties and leaders have got the right to point out faults of the ruling dispensation but not abuse the constitutional post. The people of West Bengal are facing the autocratic governance of Mamta Banerjee and TMC leaders. There might be some dissatisfaction in Tripura but it is not ruled by criminals like them."

"We had no problem allowing them to hold the rally with 500-1,000 people in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan on the road. Since they were trying to bring a large number of people from Bengal and Assam to camouflage their strength, we proposed they shift. They moved the high court, which agreed and restricted the participants to 500. Obviously, it was a big defeat for Abhishek, as he spoke before 500 people," he said.
