TKMaxx reopens for online orders - after making some major changes

TKMaxx has reopened its website for business - becoming the latest retail chain to get back up and running online.

However, like Next before it, it's limiting the number of orders it accepts each day so warehouse staff can work safely.

"Our online store is open and ready to take orders again, and we're hoping it won't be too long before we can re-open our stores," the chain said in a statement.

"While we’re delighted to be taking new orders again online, our top priority is the safety and wellbeing of our associates and customers, so we’ve made some significant changes to the way we work so we can continue to operate our business safely."

Changes for customers include limiting the number of customer orders it can take each day.

"If we reach this daily limit, our customers will still be able to browse, but won’t be able to add to basket or place any orders," the chain explained.

"We’ll be ready to take orders again the next day, so do come back and visit us. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience."

Deliveries are also changing.

"Please opt to have your order delivered to a safe place and minimise contact with our courier partners," TKMaxx said.

"This is safer for you, and them."

The chain said you’ll still get a calling card when the parcel has been delivered - with the Hermes app adding a new feature called "My Places".

"You can upload a picture of your preferred safe place and leave notes for the courier. This will help in ensuring a safe and contact-free delivery," TKMaxx said.

If delivering to your door, couriers will knock and wait at a safe distance to ensure your parcel is received. They’ll also ask for your name rather than asking for a signature.

TKMaxx also said it was stepping up its work in the community.

President Louise Greenless said: "The team at the  TK Maxx and Homesense Foundation  has been putting into place a  £1.7m programme  in response to this pandemic."

The new scheme will see a £1million community fund - where staff nominate local charities that support the most vulnerable people in their communities for grants.

The remaining £700,000 will go on donations for mental health charities and front line medical charities such as NHS Charities Together in the UK.
