TK Maxx evacuated after ceiling collapses following torrential rainfall

A TK Maxx city centre store was evacuated after torrential rain caused a ceiling to collapse.

Shopper Joanna McDonough captured dramatic footage of the incident, which shows water cascading through the roof into an area including beauty products and skin care.

Miss McDonough appears to be shooting the video as she is herded up and out of the basement floor via an escalator, along with a handful of other customers.

While masked customers ride the escalator away from the flooding, harried looking staff can be seen gathering on the floor that everyone else is departing.

Miss McDonough praised staff in Glasgow for arranging the "speedy evacuation" of customers.

“Quite scary!” she added.

The collapse happened as Scotland experienced heavy downpours over the weekend, followed by thunderstorms on Monday.

Torrential rain swept across the country closing railway lines, flooding streets with drains bursting and led to one car being abandoned after it was submerged in water.

The extreme weather had caused serious flooding in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.
