TK Maxx employee spills secrets - including how staff know when you've swapped prices

A former TK Maxx employee has lifted the lid on what it is like to work at the department store.

Dale O'Keeffe worked there a few years ago and took to TikTok to spill the secrets.

He said: "'All items have a six-week 'sell-by date''.

That means that once the six-week period is over those goods go into clearance.

He added: "That's why you can't get the same products for the full price as you can in clearance."

The TikToker, who now makes wooden furniture, also explained that the store doesn't have any testers for make-up products.

He said: "'If it's been opened, at the end of the day it goes in the bin! And that's for hygiene reasons!''

Dale also told viewers that employees ''absolutely know when you're trying to con us by switching tickets''.

The next time the cashier says "Oh, that doesn't appear to be the right price", they know it's been switched.

The prices have already been uploaded onto a system and swapping the stickers won't save you a lot of money.

Another secret Dale told is when employees think you're about to steal or do something you are not supposed to.

He said if an employee approaches you with "do you need help with that" they think "that you're doing something dodgy so they're keeping an eye on you."

If a customer is rude to an employee but then later need help with a price match, they will more likely be given the higher price.

Dale's "bonus" tip to viewers was to not expect to get some money off if you buy a damaged box as a gift.

Viewers couldn't believe Dale's secrets.

One wrote: "'Omg...I'm offended. 'I thought they were being polite when the sales assistant asked if they could help.''

Another commented: ''I always get the ''do you need any help'' I must look too poor to shop at TK!''

A fellow retail employee commented: ''One thing I've learnt from retail if you think someone's stealing simply offer them the best customer service you can. 'They HATE it!''
