'Title challengers!' - Chelsea fans split over £34m transfer as Jose Mourinho makes his move

Chelsea could be set to receive a £34million transfer windfall in the coming days, according to reports from Italy.

Sky Sports Italia are reporting that the Blues and AS Roma have agreed a £34m fee for the services of striker Tammy Abraham.

The 23-year-old, who featured just seven times between Thomas Tuchel's appointment and the end of last season, has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Atalanta, but Jose Mourinho has now joined the race for his signature - and looks close to securing just that.

Abraham looks set to fall even further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge with the imminent arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan, which is seemingly pushing the England striker out of the door.

Despite his limited game time last season, Abraham still finished the campaign as the club's joint top scorer - alongside Timo Werner - with 12 goals in all competitions.

There is no doubting Abraham's knack in front of goal and this is something former Blues boss Mourinho is willing to take a gamble on and secure a big-money move for the centre-forward.

Mourinho was in charge in west London when Abraham was coming through the club's academy system.

Some Chelsea supporters have taken to Twitter to react to the news that Roma could be about to sign Abraham for a reported fee of £34m.

Here's what they said.

Abraham looks increasingly likely to leave Stamford Bridge at some point this month, which may not be a surprise given his lack of game time under Tuchel last season.

The German coach did, however, praise the England international for his attitude considering his restricted minutes on the pitch.

“I have a lot of sympathy for him, and I can absolutely understand that he’s worried, sad and maybe angry with me when I make these decisions,” Tuchel said in April.

“I have full understanding, but what I appreciate about Tammy and about all the others who are in a similar situation, is the mentality, the attitude he arrives with, because he never lets it affect the group.

“And that’s the main point to being a top professional. And don’t get me wrong, it’s also what we demand.

“You can be sure he wants to be the number nine and the guy who starts every game.

“So it’s a tough, tough situation for him personally, in a good moment for the team.

“But you have to put your ego aside, this is also what we demand from him, but it’s also what he gets a lot of credit for, from me personally, but also from his team-mates, because he’s not letting anybody down, he’s pushing.

“So I cannot be prouder of his reaction."
