Titans won’t bring back Oilers throwback uniforms as long as NFL has ‘one helmet’ rule

There’s been plenty of buzz about the Tennessee Titans bringing back the Houston Oilers throwback uniforms after J.J. Watt’s comments about how the Texans should have the rights to them earlier this year.

While Watt received a “hard no” in response, how high of a chance does the team that rightfully owns them have of ever wearing the uniforms again?

The likelihood appears slim under the current circumstances, but it’s not entirely impossible.

According to controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk on her recent appearance on the Official Titans Podcast, the uniforms won’t make a comeback as long as the NFL retains its “one helmet” rule.

“That uniform without that helmet just wouldn’t make sense”, Strunk said on the podcast.

It’s reasonable to expect the Titans would be allowed by the league to wear the uniforms, but Strunk has a point in that they wouldn’t exactly look correct with the team’s current navy blue helmet shell.

If the Titans had kept the white helmets, which were retained until 2018, there may not have been so much of a clash within color schemes.

It will certainly be interesting to see if the Titans find a way to don their old colors in the near future.
