Titans were among NFL leaders in run-play percentage for 2019

The Tennessee Titans had one of the league’s most dominant ground games in 2019, with former Alabama standout rusher Derrick Henry to thank for that.

Henry propelled the team through the playoffs, where they came up just one win short of an appearance in Super Bowl LIV. Before that, he finished out the regular season with the most rushing yards (1,540 yards) and attempts in the NFL.

Pro Football Focus recently took a deep dive into teams’ run-play percentage, and to no one’s surprise the Titans found themselves near the top of the list at the No. 3 spot (43.2%).

That was behind only to the Seattle Seahawks (44.6 percent) and the Baltimore Ravens (48.2 percent).

The Titans kept Henry on board by placing a franchise tag on him earlier this offseason during the same time period in which they signed quarterback Ryan Tannehill to a four-year contract extension worth $118 million.

The Titans also now have another exciting option behind Henry after drafting former Appalachian State running back Darrynton Evans at No. 93 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

It will be interesting to see what the duo can accomplish in the coming seasons and if the Titans can continue to dominate on the ground like they did in 2019.
