Titans’ Week 1 Player of the Game: WR Corey Davis

The Tennessee Titans narrowly squeaked out a come-from-behind victory versus the Denver Broncos on “Monday Night Football” in an ugly fashion, but a win is a win.

While the reigning rushing champion, Derrick Henry, rumbled for 116 yards on 31 carries, and defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons came up huge on a goal-line stand, no player stood out more than wide receiver Corey Davis.

It’s been a long time coming for Davis, who was drafted as the No. 5 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. On Monday night, he looked the part of a dominant No. 1 receiver in the NFL.

His night started early, as Davis racked up 72 yards by halftime and made a spectacular 13-yard toe-tap catch on the sideline over veteran Broncos cornerback, A.J. Bouye, which was his best grab of the night.

The Titans were able to “show off” their versatility offensively (though no one is shaking in their boots), and Davis was the prime beneficiary.

Want to slow down Derrick Henry? Davis. Want to take away fellow wideout A.J. Brown? Davis. He stepped up when nothing else seemed to work for Tennessee on offense.

The talent that Davis possesses has always been there, and I’m willing to die on the CD84 hill.

Davis finished with seven catches for 101 yards — his first game over 100 yards since Week 10 of the 2018 season. It was a perfect start for the fourth-year wideout, who will be looking to get paid next offseason.
