Titans unlikely to land Bill Callahan as OL coach?

During the interview process and upon the hiring of Brian Callahan, many have wondered if the new Tennessee Titans head coach will bring his dad, Bill Callahan, with him.

The elder Callahan is one of the best when it comes to offensive line coaches and he would be a massive asset for a Titans team that is set to rebuild its group upfront.

However, the issue with hiring Callahan outright comes from the fact that he’s under contract with the Cleveland Browns, thus they would have to allow him to leave.

According to Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated, the Titans prying Callahan away from the Browns “doesn’t sound like that is going to happen” because the Browns “have been fiercely protective” of Callahan, who is one of the highest-paid assistant coaches in the league.

While it would be cool to reunite Callahan with his father, Bill, the Browns’ offensive line coach, it doesn’t sound like that is going to happen. The Browns have been fiercely protective of Bill in recent years, and he is among the highest-paid assistant coaches in the NFL.

Assuming Callahan wants to coach with his son in the first place, I do find it hard to believe that the Browns wouldn’t oblige if that’s what he wants to do, but crazier things have happened.

The Titans do have another great option if it isn’t Callahan, as former Titans head coach and esteemed offensive line coach, Mike Munchak, is said to be open to returning to the team in that role.

The Titans will be in excellent hands if either Callahan or Munchak are brought in.
