Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel made the decision to bench starting quarterback Marcus Mariota in favor of Ryan Tannehill in Sunday’s 16-0 loss to the Denver Broncos.
We’ll know whether or not that move will be permanent in the near future.
Vrabel made clear the players would be first to know.
“I think that decision will be made this evening and tomorrow, and then we’ll let everybody know,” he said in a report. “We’ll let the players involved know, let the team know and then let you guys know.”
He also said he wanted the decision to be based off of what the team was doing moving forward offensively rather than the emotional aspect of the situation.
“I just want to make sure that we’re going through everything that we need to go through and what we want to do offensively, not use the emotion of the game to make a decision,” he said. “Just sit back here with our coaches, talk to the trainer, find out what the injury report looks like, find out what the game plan is going to be, find out how we need to beat (the Los Angeles Chargers) and then figure out who we’re going to do it with offensively and defensively.”
The Titans and Chargers are to face each other at 3:05 p.m. CT on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.
