Titans’ Taylor Lewan to Jadeveon Clowney: ‘We could be teammates now’

Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan has seen firsthand just how dominant Jadeveon Clowney can be dating back to his days at Michigan, so it comes as no surprise that he’s trying to recruit the South Carolina product.

Both Lewan (No. 14 overall by the Titans) and Clowney (No. 1 overall by the Texans) were taken in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and squared off several times while playing for teams in the same division.

But before then, Lewan was on the field for Clowney’s 2013 tackle at the Outback Bowl, nicknamed “The Hit”, that officially put Clowney on the map and made him one of the most hyped-up prospects in NFL history.

On Saturday, Lewan posted the video of Clowney’s infamous hit and suggested that he and the pass-rusher could be teammates in 2020.

Titans general manager Jon Robinson has made it clear the team has been in contact with Clowney’s reps, but so far nothing has happened, as Clowney continues to wait for the right time to sign.

Tennessee offers Clowney plenty of familiarity, which Titans linebackers coach and former Houston Texans defensive assistant, Shane Bowen, thinks could help his transition to the Titans if he does indeed sign.

Head coach Mike Vrabel was also Clowney’s defensive coordinator in 2017 with the Texans, the same season Clowney totaled a career-high 9.5 sacks.

It would seem that if Clowney wants to sign a one-year “prove-it” deal with the intent of landing a more lucrative long-term contract in 2021, playing for the Titans might be his best bet.
