Titans’ Stephen Gostkowski reacts to missing game-tying FG

Despite all of the ugly that was the Tennessee Titans’ Week 7 performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers, head coach Mike Vrabel’s squad still had an opportunity to push the game into overtime near the end of regulation.

Down 27-24, kicker Stephen Gostkowski lined up for a 45-yard attempt that would have tied the game up and sent it to overtime — and there was a great deal of confidence that he’d make it after booting a 51-yard attempt through the uprights earlier in the game.

However, Gostkowski’s kick went wide right and denied the Titans the chance to get an extra quarter with the Steelers.

Following the game, Gostkowski said he felt confident prior to the kick, he just didn’t get it done, per Paul Kuharsky.

“I had an opportunity to tie the game up. I felt pretty good all game, and came out there and it went right down the middle and faded to the right,” Gostkowski said. “I’ll have to look at it. Just very disappointed to let the team down like that. I was confident going out there but didn’t get it done. Just not very good right now.”

Gostkowski’s miss did not hurt the confidence Vrabel has in him, though, as the Titans head coach said he was “confident that he’ll make the next one.”

Gostkowski certainly had his issues early on this season, but has been solid since then and has come through clutch for the Titans with three game-winning field goals in six games.

This was just another one of those days for the veteran, who along with his team will look to rebound against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8.
