Titans set to release Johnathan Cyprien and the Steelers should be interested

According to NFL reporter Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans are planning to release starting safety Johnathan Cyprien. The understanding is the Titans want to bring him back at a cheaper salary but the Pittsburgh Steelers would be wise to at least ring his phone once he hits the open market.

Cyrpien has had two forgettable seasons in Tennessee while dealing with injuries. He missed all of 2018 with a torn ACL but is well ahead of schedule to be ready to go in 2019.

Prior to coming to the Titans, Cyprien strung together four straight seasons of more than 100 tackles with the Jacksonville Jaguars. For a team that struggles with tackling, Cyprien is exactly what they need. He’s fast and physical and is rarely out of position.

Cyprien could supplant Terrell Edmunds as the team’s other starting safety and allow Edmunds to move into the hybrid safety/linebacker role in sub packages he appears to be best suited for.
