The Tennessee Titans have already made a host of important moves during free agency, but there’s still more work to be done in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft.
As to which need the Titans address in the first round is a big question, and one that a lot of analysts don’t agree upon.
One move the team could make with the No. 29 overall pick is selecting former LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson — and that’s exactly what Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar has them doing in his post-free agency mock draft.
“Pairing ex-Falcons edge-rusher Vic Beasley with Harold Landry gives the Titans an ostensibly impressive set of bookends if Beasley can regain his 2016 form (15.5 sacks and 65 total pressures) after subsequent seasons that have been relatively pedestrian,” he wrote.
But what if Beasley or Landry don’t rise to the occasion the way the Titans are looking for them to this year?
“If Beasley can’t, and/or if Landry can’t hit the proverbial next level, there will be a need for developmental edge talent,” Farrar wrote. “Few players in this class scream both developmental and talent more than Chaisson, who has ridiculous athleticism to do everything from bending the edge against some of the NCAA’s best tackles, to surprising with his off-ball versatility. Not unlike Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter, another LSU alum, Chaisson will require some patience and coaching before he puts it all together, but the rewards could be extreme.”
Chaisson wasn’t nicknamed the “sack guru” with the Tigers for no reason.
Last season, he tallied 60 total tackles (34 solo), 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two passes defensed — proving he can bounce back from a major injury in a notable way.
Chaisson has made clear he believes he’s one of the best players in the draft, and the Titans defense could gain a lot by adding him in April.
