Titans select different safety in BR’s 2007 NFL re-draft

The Tennessee Titans selected safety Michael Griffin out of Texas with the No. 19 overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

But what would the team have done if Griffin was already off the board?

In a re-draft for the year written up by Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport, he has the Titans taking former Florida safety Reggie Nelson in the same spot.

Here’s what Davenport had to say about the selection:

Reggie Nelson didn’t enjoy the sort of success early in his professional career that Griffin did. His three-year stint in Jacksonville was forgettable. But once he moved on to Cincinnati, he blossomed.”

Over a six-year tenure with the Bengals that saw him play both free and strong safety, Nelson made a Pro Bowl and intercepted 23 passes. Eight of those picks came in 2015 when he tied for the league lead and was named a second-team All-Pro.

It took Nelson awhile to hit his peak after being drafted No. 21 overall in 2007 by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he was more than solid when he finally got there. His 832 career tackles, 38 interceptions and the two Pro Bowls he made tell the story there.

Griffin, who did have a great career in Nashville, totaled 813 tackles, 25 interceptions and was also selected to the Pro Bowl twice.
