Titans sat Julio Jones late in Week 3 as a precaution

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel wasn’t exactly clear as to why wide receiver Julio Jones was sitting late in the Week 3 contest against the Indianapolis Colts when he addressed the media after the game, but he clarified the situation on Monday.

Vrabel revealed that Jones was dealing with some tightness, which led to him making the decision to sit the veteran late in the game. It had nothing to do with his performance, whether blocking or otherwise.

“Guys goes through games, guys get tight and I felt like it was in the best interest of our football team and everybody involved that he be available in an emergency situation in that point in time,” Vrabel explained. “There hasn’t been — other than one admitted lapse in judgement in the first game, which everybody would agree on, myself, the team, Julio — there hasn’t been one situation where I was disappointed. He’s played physical, he came back and played great last week, played physical yesterday, and that’s where we were.”

Vrabel wasn’t clear on where Jones was feeling the aforementioned tightness, but it seems the issue isn’t serious, as the 32-year-old would have been used in an emergency situation, as the head coach said.

We’ll keep a close eye on the injury report as the week progresses.
