Titans safety Kevin Byard says team must raise ‘level of expectations’ in 2019

Tennessee Titans safety Kevin Byard has played a large role within the team’s defense, which looks to only expand as he moves forward in his career.

But it’s not just about him. The team as a whole needs to perform at a high level if the Titans stand any chance at being serious postseason contenders in 2019.

“That’s always the main goal, it’s always having team success,” Byard said when he joined GMFB recently.

He also noted the team’s record for the past three seasons, and thinks it’s time to kick things up a notch.

“We’ve talked about this whole offseason going from good to great. We’ve had three straight 9-7 seasons and we understand that now that it’s not enough and we have to raise our level of expectations.”

Byard has had a large influence over his teammates by taking on a leadership role.

“I think one of the main things we’re doing is pretty much continuing to gain trust with the coaches and us as players…”

He says he’s been holding his teammates accountable this offseason, and leading by example throughout practices and in the weight room.

The safety had a strong season last year, recording 90 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions.

Arguably the best safety in the league, expect Byard to continue his upward momentum in 2019.
