Titans release K Cairo Santos, OL David Quessenberry

The writing was on the wall for kicker Cairo Santos after he missed all four of his field goal attempts in the 14-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in Nissan Stadium.

The Tennessee Titans released Santos, along with offensive lineman David Quessenberry on Monday afternoon. Quessenberry was inactive on Sunday, but had a touchdown reception against the Colts.

It will be interesting to see where the Titans go from here at place kicker, with Ryan Succop on Injured Reserve. He won’t be eligible to play again until after Week 8.

“It was a very painful, extremely disappointing day,” Santos said after the game per a report from the team’s Jim Wyatt. “I don’t feel sorry for myself, I feel sorry for my teammates and coaches that work hard all week, including myself. I feel sorry for my teammates, my coaches and they deserve to win and I have just got to do a better job.”

Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and the team backed Santos after his forgettable performance.

“I have confidence in him,” Vrabel told reporters. “… I think we all have a job to do. We like to think that if you make mistakes, we can get them fixed and corrected. This is a guy who’s made some kicks for us. We’ll have to do a better job making them, and coaching him, and executing them.”

The Titans face the Denver Broncos on Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CT at Mile High Stadium.
