Titans receive pair of honors from Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry had some ups and downs before establishing himself as one of the league’s most dominant rushers.

But he made his presence known last year, as he finished out the 2019 season with the NFL rushing title (1,540 yards).

He was arguably the most important player on offense as the Titans made a postseason run no one predicted, falling just short of a Super Bowl LIV appearance after a 35-24 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

Over the three playoff games, Henry racked up 446 yards and three touchdowns (one passing), including 64 rushes for 377 yards in two postseason victories.

The former Alabama standout was also named the FedEx Ground Player of the Year for the 2019 season.

The Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame rightfully gave Henry more recognition on Wednesday, naming him Pro Athlete of the Year. The TSHOF also recognized the Titans as a whole, naming the franchise the Pro Team of the Year in the state of Tennessee.

Titans controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk released a statement praising the team, including head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Jon Robinson, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online.

“The 2019 season was certainly one to remember for our organization and our fans,” Adams Strunk said. “I was so proud of how our team came together in advancing to the AFC Championship game. There is plenty of credit to go around from Jon and his construction of the team, to Mike and his leadership and to our players who brought the game plans to life. We have seen consistent progress each year and we hope to see that progress continue this year.”

The Titans will look to repeat their success of last season in 2020, except this time it’ll hopefully result in a Super Bowl appearance and win.
