On his way to winning the rushing title in 2019, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry had to run a lot of people over, as evidenced by his yards after contact stats, which are nothing short of obscene.
In total, Henry led the NFL with 1,268 rushing yards after contact last season. To put just how insane that is into perspective, if you counted just his yards after contact he still would’ve finished fourth in rushing yards.
Through the first two rounds of the playoffs and including the regular season, Henry had compiled 1,567 yards after contact, the most since 2006.
And, of course, when it comes to yards after contact per attempt, Henry finished tops in that category, also.
A lot of Henry’s success has been attributed to a great run-blocking offensive line, and rightfully so, the group upfront did an outstanding job for the Alabama product last season.
However, let’s not pretend that Henry doesn’t absolutely truck grown men on a lot of his runs with his ridiculous size (6-foot-3, 247 pounds). His ability to stiff arm and run defenders over is a meme at this point.
The concern about Henry possibly moving on as a free agent this offseason has been put to bed, as the Titans franchise tagged their star back on Monday. Now we’ll have to see if they can reach a long-term deal with him before the July 15 deadline.
