Titans RB David Fluellen stresses versatility ahead of 2019 season

Tennessee Titans running back David Fluellen has found a place in the shadows recently as he’s been recovering from injury as rushers Dion Lewis and Derrick Henry get the carries.

But Fluellen is expected to play far more of a role for the team in the 2019 season.

Tight end Luke Stocker, who also served as a fullback in 2018, has since moved on to the Atlanta Falcons after departing from Tennessee earlier in the offseason.

Given Fluellen’s overall versatility and his recent weight gain of 16-17 pounds, he could potentially slide into that role in the upcoming season, quite possibly in addition to some other assignments.

Fluellen is embracing his part with the team — however that may ultimately end up being defined before the season comes around.

“The more you can do, the better,” he said in a report by the team’s Jim Wyatt. “Because if you are versatile, and you can do things other guys can’t, you are going to be used more.”

Head coach Mike Vrabel is appreciative of the 5-foot-11, 224-pounder’s eagerness to adapt.

“He will do anything that anybody on this team asks him to do, whether it’s to play any position – offensively or defensively. He does his best on special teams, he’s a hard worker, he cares about his teammates, and he does a great job.”
