Titans ranked 15th overall in run defense last year by PFF

The Tennessee Titans defense has been a work in progress that has started to come up big in recent years.

But how solid is the unit specifically against the run?

Pro Football Focus took a look at how well the Titans defended in this area last month.

The network ranked the Titans last in the AFC South, and at No. 15 overall in the NFL with a grade of 84.9.

The rival Houston Texans sat atop the division with a grade of 91.9, which is also good for second-best in the league.

The Titans weren’t far behind the rest of the division, though, with the Jacksonville Jaguars posting a grade of 87.7 (11th), and the Indianapolis Colts recording one of 86.2 (14th).

In 2018, Tennessee allowed 1,863 rushing yards for nine touchdowns, with their longest rush allowed going for 97 yards.

With these numbers, the Titans ranked No. 18 in the NFL in rushing defense — one place behind the Washington Redskins and a directly ahead of the Jaguars.

The Chicago Bears boasted the most stout rushing defense last season, allowing 1,280 yards from opposing offenses on the ground.

On the other side of the spectrum, the Arizona Cardinals were ranked last in the league with 2,479 rushing yards allowed.
