Titans’ QB situation lands in ‘very good’ tier of USA TODAY rankings

Since taking over the starting job in 2019, quarterback Ryan Tannehill has provided stability and then some for the Tennessee Titans at a position that was unstable before he landed in Nashville.

As a result of Tannehill’s immense success the past two seasons, which has helped take Tennessee to new heights offensively and a pair of playoff appearances, the Titans are in great shape under center for 2021.

And USA TODAY’s Mike Jones agrees. He puts the Titans’ quarterback situation in the “Very Good” tier, which is the second-best tier in his rankings.

Ryan Tannehill just repeatedly gets the job done. After going 7-3 as the starter his first year in Tennessee and 11-5 last season, he has solidified himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league after looking like a bust with the Adam Gase-led Dolphins.

Other quarterbacks that appear in Tannehill’s tier are the Dallas Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, the Los Angeles Rams’ Matthew Stafford, and the Atlanta Falcons’ Matt Ryan.

While the Titans received some flack at the time for signing Tannehill to a four-year, $118 million deal last offseason, the move looks better and better when you consider some recent quarterback contracts, especially Prescott’s.

Both Ryan and Prescott have more guaranteed money and annual average salary in their deals than Tannehill, while Stafford’s is worth more in total value but falls short in guaranteed money and annual average.

The Titans might be set under center for the next few years, but they still need to help Tannehill out with a pass-catcher or two, which we expect them to do in the days and weeks ahead.
