Titans QB Ryan Tannehill says adjusting to backup role is ‘tough at times’

It’s Marcus Mariota’s job to lose when it comes to the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback position.

But when one considers how often Mariota has been sidelined by injury, the backup position is almost equally important to look at.

The Titans signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill to fill that role and serve as an insurance policy for Mariota, who enters a pivotal season on the fifth and final year of his rookie deal.

The media got another chance to see him in action – both on the field and on the podium – during Thursday’s OTA practice.

He says the transition from going from a starter to a backup has come with its own set of difficulties, but it appears he is embracing the situation.

“It’s definitely tough at times,” Tannehill told reporters. “But Marcus is great to work with. The staff here, Marcus, the quarterback room is really great, and when you work with good people — great people — and you’re all aligned in this thing together trying to win football games, it definitely helps with that transition. But there are some things that are tough about it, but kinds of goes along with it.”

Here’s a look at Tannehill in action.

It will certainly be interesting to see how much action – if any – the quarterback sees in the upcoming season.
