Titans QB Ryan Tannehill ready for larger role with team in Week 7

The Tennessee Titans named Ryan Tannehill the team’s starting quarterback on Tuesday evening, and he’s ready to take the reins.

Tannehill is ‘excited’ to get back to a starting role, a position he once held with the Miami Dolphins.

“To get a starting role back at this point is really exciting for me, and I definitely want to take advantage of it,” he said in a report by the team’s Jim Wyatt. “I am not trying to prove anything other than I can lead this team to wins.”

The former Dolphin also spoke to his appreciation of how former starter Marcus Mariota has handled the situation.

“(Marcus) has been nothing but a professional through and through throughout this process and it just speaks to the man he is, how he’s dealt with this,” he said. Obviously, he is hurting but he’s handled it like a true pro and that says a lot about him.”

Mariota was benched in the third quarter of last week’s 16-0 loss to the Denver Broncos, and while he didn’t add any points to the scoreboard, he did look to be the more competent quarterback.

Tannehill finished out the day 13-of-16 passes for 144 yards with one interception.

On his career, he is 1,829-of-2,911 passes for 20,434 yards with 123 touchdowns and 75 interceptions.

The Titans will face the Los Angeles Chargers next in Nissan Stadium at 3:05 p.m. CT.
