Titans QB Ryan Tannehill has found success using play action

Quarterback Ryan Tannehill turned in the best season of his professional career in 2019 with the Tennessee Titans, helping propel a new-look team to an AFC Championship appearance.

The Titans may have fallen 35-24 in that game, primarily making use of the ground game throughout the potseason overall, but Tannehill stayed sharp for the most part after taking the reins in Week 7.

Along with posting the highest passer rating in the NFL (117.5), Tannehill also had the best passer rating when the offense used play-action (140.6).

New Orleans Saints quarterback (137.1) and Jacksonville Jaguars signal-caller Gardner Minshew (136.4) ranked behind him in that order.

Tannehill also led the NFL in yards per attempt (9.6), adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (10.2), yards per completion (13.6).

On the 2019 season, he was good for 70.3% of his pass attempts for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions over 10 starts and a pair of appearances.

It seems the Titans have found their quarterback of the future in a player who was once knocked for his inconsistency, but is now gaining a new level of respect with a team that fits him.

As free agency looms, Tannehill has made it clear he wants to remain in Tennessee, and it will be interesting to see if the Titans sign him to a more expensive multi-year deal or franchise tag him.
